Wild Iris Photos

Wild iris grow in huge swathes in this high prairie country. Every spring, the ranches are decorated with fields of blue flag iris, blazing Indian paintbrush, and yellow prairie buttercups.

I went out last night and got a few sunset pictures. I have been wanting to capture the beauty of the wild iris, and I think I managed to do it. Here's an article with more information on wild iris.

Sunsets and wild iris.

It's no secret that I love summer. When I lived farther East, I used to say spring was my favorite season. Not anymore! In these high prairies and mountains of Wyoming, I much prefer summer.

The mosquitoes are pretty horrible, but you can't beat the 80* weather, the cool nights, the gorgeous views!

Spring this year was slow and wet and cool. Summer has been long in coming. But it's here! The lovely flowers, the green, green grass, and all the birds singing...

I was using a Canon Mark III 5D with a Sigma 70-200 lens, to capture these images. It was such a beautiful evening that I didn't really mind the bugs, or the difficulty shooting with my 8 month pregnant belly in the way, haha!

I just love a colorful sunset, don't you?! Take some time this week and go take a sunset picture. Use your phone, if that's what you have. Try to find a pretty little spot and see what you can catch.

I have been made aware of more tragic, horrific events that are happening around the world, and it breaks my heart.

There seems to be so much evil in this old world - which shouldn't surprise me, since Jesus predicted it.

But it can weigh a person down, and if we aren't proactive about dealing with this type of depressing information, we will end up depressed, sad, or fearful.

The two things that keep me at peace and centered in Christ

Stay in the Word.

Open up your Bible every day and read. Just pick a book, and read a chapter or two a day. No need for commentaries, journals, or anything else. Just read the Word. If done regularly over months and years, it will produce an anchor for your soul.

Find a practical way to get some emotional refilling.

Maybe for you, it's gardening, cleaning, or baking. Maybe it's throwing parties for friends. Maybe it's volunteering. But we have to keep our minds filled with good things, or the evil will overwhelm us. One of the ways I focus ion good, is to take pictures of God's beautiful creation.
