Do you ever wish for a basic yellow cake recipe? Me too. It took me years of trying cake recipes, to get the one I like best. Most recipes were too dry or too complicated. I just wanted a simple, delicious, yellow cake! Well, today I have for you a perfect recipe. It is soft, moist, and buttery. So yummy that you don't even need frosting! 😉

This cake is simple to prepare, only takes 30 minutes to bake, and is the perfect base for many desserts.

I like to use it for Strawberry Shortcake. Just cover a piece with sliced, sweetened berries, and add a dollop of whipped cream on top. Yum!
My kids prefer it plain.

Everything was going perfectly until I tried to bake it. After 20 min, the middle was still completely uncooked. I ended up having to bake it for a total of about 35 min. It turned out great and tasted delicious but the timing had me worried.

I'm sorry the timing was off! Sometimes our ovens vary in actual temperatures - maybe mine is hotter than normal?

Do you live at high altitude? Sometimes mine falls, I live at 7,200 ft.
To fix that, you can add an extra 1/4 cup flour.

Hi Just wanted to say I made your cake last weekend. It was perfect for two people. I plan on making it again today. I used a 9 inch round pan, and topped it with a chocolate glaze. To day I am going to spilt it and use a raspberry filling. It does need to bake for 30 to 35 minutes, I live in norther Ohio so maybe the temperature does depend on the location of the baker. Nice cold and snowy say by Lake Erie. Good day to bake. Thanks for your recipe.

I really needed the right-sized yellow cake for a 9x9 pan so I could layer whatever fruit, jam, chocolate, etc. I have ready for it. It's no fuss and easy to make. Perfect as a base or standalone cake and not too much! I cut it into 9 squares and I think it's roughly 286 calories a square!
